What are some issues you should consider when using online social media sites?

Some of the issues you should consider when using social media sites are lack of privacy,  susceptibility to bullying and uncomfortable minor to major harassment. using social media is comparable to screaming to the world the first thing you learn in coding "Hello World". While this may sound horrible to some it's necessarily always so bad, there are companies and firewalls put in place to protect you and your data. The slight lack of privacy shouldn't be the main turn off from social media and the good that can be done with social media. While harassment and susceptibility to bullying are also a problem, this is something that we face in real life also, except it has moved to our handheld devices.

My thoughts on social media websites 


People focus to heavily on the disadvantages of social media and not on the benefits or the advantages of social media. They like to say that it makes us disconnected from the world, that we don't talk to each other anymore, which is a lie, we have never been more connected then ever before. If I wanted to I could talk to someone in Oregon all the way from Maine, Or to someone in India all the way from Germany. Not just in communication but in consumerism and in every day life. We have used social media to promote awareness to political problems, such as the problems in Sudan or China. Social media has also been used to advocate for better habits, that promote a healthy life, these include the no smoking advertisement, get help hotline advertisement and college promotions. Social media is full of advantages that are overlooked due to fear of the unknown.
